This annular eclipse begins in the equatorial pacific, 1,600 km southwest of hawaii, in a region of high cloudiness associated with the intertropical convergence zone (itcz). Captured at one of its earliest moments, october’s eclipsed sun is seen just above the clouds near sunrise in this snapshot.
